Frontline Foundation supports efforts made by Instituto Fronteiras to develop biodiversity-based value chain products capable of connecting local rural communities from Extractive Reserves in protected areas to local entrepreneurs interested in investing in new local products. Flower Women’s Association is one of the local organizations in the process to develop a business model to produce jams made out of local fruits. This project connects local universities focused on performing food engineering studies aimed at testing products based on local fruits, to local entrepreneurs interested in supporting new business models based on forest products, as well as to local communities in pursuit of alternative income that do not damage the forest. Fronteiras is the key institution connecting all these dots and mediating local arrangements.
Lemon, pepper, cupuaçu and açaí stand out among fruits used to produce jams. There is a growing sustainable market open to consume sustainable forest brands developed by local communities; this is the market Fronteiras wants to focus on. Nowadays, Fronteiras helps Flower Women Association’s to learn how to produce, sell and promote their new jam brand.
